India - Processed Dal

Our processing business took off in India with the launch of the Sansar brand of processed Dal (a term in the Indian subcontinent for dried, split pulses) on 1st May 2017.

The dal is being produced in our dal mill in Calcutta. Sansar Dal will be distributed all over India with our main markets being Assam, Orissa, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.

This represents a further step to integrate our business along the value chain. Most of the pulses being processed by our mill is being supplied by our Canadian entity.

FALHER, CENTRAL ALBERTA

The Falher AB site plant which currently is able to handle up to 75,000MT per year, went through an expansion providing for 1200MT of additional storage, complete with an improved handling system in August 2016.

The new system, despite its robust build is extremely gentle on the product it handles. The new top grain loop turns very slowly and the storage bins are smooth walled with internal ladders, for minimal product contact when accessing the bin.

The bottom drag now moves a larger quantity of product at a slower speed with exceptional capacity in the delivery leg to the rail cars.

At the forefront of global nutrition trends, growing health and environmental consciousness necessitates food solutions that give greater nutritional yield. Our efforts include promoting pulses as a viable source of protein in our diet. We have recently commissioned a new state of the art facility that can extract protein from pulses for food manufacturers to use as a raw material in their production.

Our Protein Extraction plant is located in one of the largest and highest quality pea and lentil drawing area in Western Canada. The plant currently handles 30,000 MT of pulses such as peas, lentils and chickpeas to produce food ingredients such as protein, starch and fibre.

Agrocorp Protein Extraction Plant New

Agrocorp Processing, the Canadian-based subsidiary of Agrocorp International, a Singapore-based agricultural commodities trading and processing firm, is pleased to announce a new protein extraction plant in Cut Knife, Saskatchewan.

Pea Protein Plant Project

Protein Extraction plant

Agrocorp Protein Extraction Plant New

The plant currently handles 30,000 MT of pulses such as peas, lentils and chickpeas to produce food ingredients such as protein, starch and fibre. The plant utilizes a dry extraction technique and the product produced is sold into food manufacturing and pet food markets in Canada, the United States and Mexico. Agrocorp expects to commence construction for phase 2 of the facility in early 2020, seeing the capacity double as well as enabling Agrocorp to handle some organic product as well.

The new plant will mean some exciting opportunities for Agrocorp’s trusted farmers in both the shorter and longer term. To meet its requirements for 2019, Agrocorp will be rolling out some new crop yellow pea production contracts as well as is looking to procure old crop yellow peas at spot prices for April to August deliveries.

Vijay Iyengar
Chairman & Managing Director
Agrocorp International

‘Food ingredients and pea protein in specific, is an area that represents a new and exciting vertical from Agrocorp in its suite of products that we are able to offer our customers. We’re also proud to now be a part of the global movement in plant-based proteins consumption and sustainability.’

This investment marks the first stage of the Group’s overall plan to become the market leader in plant-based proteins with extraction plants located in Canada, India and Australia.

The outlook for the plant protein market is promising. Plant protein is used in human food, as a meat alternative and in health foods, along with uses in pet and animal feed and aquaculture. The market is tipped to grow to 16.7 billion by 2025 and human consumption of plant proteins is expected to double. This is due to the global population’s exponential growth with increasing food demands, along with a rise in healthy eating trends.

To secure its supply chain, Agrocorp will be offering high protein seed varieties to its farmers located in the vicinity of the plant and enter into to 6-12-month production contracts with them. At the same time, Agrocorp is also commencing efforts into research and development of higher protein varieties with strong agronomics which will be released into the market in a 3 to 5-year timeframe.

The new high-tech facility is firmly part of Agrocorp’s vision to become a leading player in the global market of plant-based proteins, and specifically, protein extracted from pulses. Plant-based proteins have shown to be rapidly increasing in demand in snack food, nutritional supplements and pet food.
